Post 2075’s 52nd annual Thanksgiving meal for
veterans was a rousing success thanks to an incredible group effort. Post 2075
members, cadets and volunteers lined up in front of the post to welcome
veterans from area hospitals as they got off buses. Hawthorne Navy JROTC Cadets
then conducted a posting of the colors ceremony and followed by a full Thanksgiving
feast and then speeches from VFW leadership and elected officials.
This year Congresswoman Maxine Waters helped welcome the
veterans alongside VFW CA State Commander David Cuda who was touring the posts
in the area. They were also joined by Hawthorne Mayor Pro Tem Alex Monteiro and
Hawthorne Councilmember Faye Johnson.
"We want all veterans to know that the VFW is their home,
that they are not forgotten and that we are their voice”
-VFW CA State Commander David Cuda.
"Our veterans deserve events like this and so much more.
Together with the VFW we will make sure that we are doing our best for our
veterans.”
-Congresswoman Maxine Waters
In all Post 2075 ended up serving approximately 100 veterans
including VA staff, VFW state and district representatives. This included an
additional 35 volunteers including VFW Auxiliary, Hawthorne High School
students, Navy JROTC Cadets, and other active volunteers. Thank you to everyone
who devoted their culinary skills, coordination, time and effort in making this
event such a wonderful experience for many of the elderly veterans who received
a well-deserved hero’s welcome.
