Hawthorne Post 2075 Jr. Vice Commander Albert Rodriguez spoke about his experience following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks at a commemoration event at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power headquarters (LADWP) building. The event was hosted by VALOR, an employee resource group at the LADWP for military veteran employees. Rodriguez had just been hired by the LADWP in the summer of 2001. Following the events of that terrible day his Marine Corps Reserve unit 2nd Battalion 23rd Marine Regiment was activated for homeland defense as a quick reaction force in case of another attack on the West coast. He went on to be part of the invasion force into Iraq in 2003. The story about his speech appears in the LADWP’s Intake Magazine.
