Veterans Welcomed to Heartfelt Thanksgiving Meal

- 11/24/2024

On Sunday, November 24th, 2024 Post 2075 warmly welcomed a total of 75 Veterans from the West L.A. and Long Beach VA Medical Centers as well as the Sepulveda Ambulatory Care Center. As the Veterans arrived, they were greeted by Hawthorne High School cadets from the Naval JROTC, student volunteers from the AVID club, and Post 2075 officers and auxiliary members. Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43) spoke to the Veterans and thanked them for their service as they were treated to a well-deserved, delicious Thanksgiving meal with all the fixings.

"We thank all the veterans for the many sacrifices they have made and I will continue doing what I can to take care of them. We are indebted to them and their families.”
-Congresswoman Maxine Waters, 43rd District

Over 125 meals were prepared and served by 11 Auxiliary members and seven Post members
Including 11 cadets and five student volunteers. Planning began days in advance with the purchase of ingredients and preparation the day before and early Sunday morning. In what was described as a "well oiled machine,” everyone worked as a team towards the culmination of a memorable day.

"The Veterans and guests expressed their gratitude for a great event! I am glad to say that this was another successful Thanksgiving and I want to thank everyone involved. They should be very proud with the outcome.”
-Jan Blomsterberg, Commander VFW Post 2075

Post 2075’s annual Thanksgiving meal was a way of living up to the spirit of VFW’s mission to "take care of our own” and provide a place where Veterans will always be welcome. The event also brought the local community together in the spirit of service and sharing the blessings and abundance that many take for granted.
